ABBADJINN MAKES OVERDOSE LOOK GOOD
ABBADJINN (38) won a good Listed sprint at Cologne in fast
time. He would now be unbeaten in six starts at less than seven furlongs if he
hadn't twice bumped into the Hungarian horse Overdose who has beaten him into
second place both times - most recently by two and a half lengths in a Group 2.
With Overdose attempting to make it eleven wins from eleven
starts in the Prix Abbaye this week, Abbadjinn's performance served a timely
reminder of the Hungarian star's talent.
OVERDOSE IS THE REAL DEAL
The Hungarian sensation OVERDOSE (40) made it ten wins from
ten starts when winning the Group 2 Goldene Peitsche at Baden-Baden. And he did
it in style. He set a strong pace right from the start and had all his rivals at
full stretch by halfway. In the final furlong he really piled on the pressure
and began to surge right away in the style we've become accustomed to. But his
jockey eased off in the closing stages and had time to jump up in the saddle and
wave to the crowd - something you don't often see at the end of a sprint.
How good Overdose really is I cannot say at this stage. All
I can say is that he ran a second per mile closer to my standard times than any
other winner on a very good ten race card. I rated this just two lengths a mile
off a Group 1 performance and he could almost certainly have run a fair bit
faster. He has the build of a seven furlong horse to my eye but showed plenty of
pace over the six furlongs here and has won over five. So I can see him running
a big race in the Abbaye. I'll certainly be cheering him on as racing needs
fairy tale horses like him.
